So supposedly retail version of SQL Server 2012 can be sxs installed with SQL Server 2008 R2 and BIDS is supposed to work happily with each other..at least that's what appeared to be the case after hours of browsing forums and books online, etc.
However, I'm now running into an issue where the assemblies for 2008 R2 are no longer found and I can't figure out how this happened.
After my initial install of SQL 2012 on my work system, I had no issues with Script Tasks or Components for BIDS 2008. Now, however, any time I open a Script Task or Component in one of our 2008 packages in production on my work system, it cannot find these assemblies.
Browsing to the install path that they should be in (either C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Sever\100\SDK\Assemblies or C:\Program Files (x86)\...) the assemblies are not there.
The only location that I can find them in on my system is in the 2012 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\SDK\Assemblies\).
I've read that people are stating that it's fine to reference these from the GAC, but the problem is these packages do not run in production on my work system. They run on servers where this location may or may not be the same.
Why did these just blatantly get removed? I thought the whole reason for these different version paths under the Microsoft SQL Server directories was so that these could be installed sxs? If that isn't the case, is there anyway at all to have both versions on a developer's system and not run into this issue?
Do you need to install 2012 in a completely different directory so that it doesn't remove these assemblies? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
