It took me a while to understand MS documentation for SSIS 2012 and that the new model of using the SSISDB database. You can see myconfusion and clearification by Olaf in: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/9f559d72-b895-4406-9f61-5a39cbb9cd7f
When I connect to the SSIS service vis SSMS, i see the Running Packages and Stored Packages folders. Given that we're now using SSISDB, and not file system or MSDB, is there any purpose for even connecting to SSIS for management or administrative tasks? I'm just learning about SSIS, but it seems to me that the Stored Packages is now only for legacy deployments? When administering SSIS 2012, is there any useful functionality when connecting to the SSIS service via SSMS? Seems to me that most, if not all, administration is done via connecting to the DB Engine?
