SSIS 2012 Project Deployment model project level connection managers

This question applies to running the package from visual studio and also running it from SSISDB.

If I have a ftp connection manager and a oledb connection manager at project level I notice I was not able to use expressions to build the connection string or password to ftp connection manager but if I keep the connection managers at package level I can use expressions.

1-) Can I have project level connection managers and use project level parameters to build their connection strings? If not what is the best practice to be able to point all connection managers to development or to deployment (some connection managers like ftp has passwords that has to be saved with them)

2-) Can I point the project running from visual studio to a different environment (including different project paramater values and connection managers with different connection strings) and can I also push this environment to SSIS datase when the project is deployed?

Thank you
