I am teaching a class that about SSIS and the rest of the BI stack. They are coming from an Oracle and Informatica world to a Microsoft only world and are wondering what the Microsoft pattern is for BI.
One student is especially interested in the Microsoft way to handle data errors. They understand that they can catch data errors and write them to a file. I can show them how to get the error description and I am tempted to show them a component for getting more information (http://eod.codeplex.com/).
However, is there a pattern for presenting this information to the users who can fix the errors? I think that they would be ok with a solution that organizes the errors in a form that users can query to see the errors they are responsible for. I think that I could come up with a workable solution in a couple days, but this student is interested in the "Microsoft" best practice for this or second best the best practice published by a recognized SSID expert. Is there such a practice and if so where is it published?
