Problem with Sql Execute Package Utility and SQL Server Import Export Wizard and MS SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 - KB2546951

$

0

Since last july I'm unable to use the Execute Package Utility and the SQL Server Import Export Wizard doesn't show the Save SSIS Package option.

I suspect that this situation is related with the instalation of the Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 (KB2546951)

My MS SQL Server (2008 R2) Management Studio is as this:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio   10.50.1600.1
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 10.0.5500.0
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)  6.1.7601.17514
Microsoft MSXML                          3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer              9.11.9600.18376
Microsoft .NET Framework                 2.0.50727.5485
Operating System                         6.1.7601

In the Execute Package Utility I get this message:
ERROR: The Execute Package Utility requires Integration Services to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008 R2: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.

In the SQL Server Import Export Wizard I see this message:
In SQL Server Express, Web or Workgroup, you can run the package that Import and Export Wizard creates, but cannot save it. To save packages that wizard creates, you must upgtrade to SQL Server Standard, Enterprise, Developer or Evaluation.

Can someone confirm that this is related with SP3 instalation ?

Thanks

September has finally arrived, traditionally a strong month for TechNet Guru contributions.

Maybe it is because our professionals have returned from a well deserved Summer break refreshed and inspired?

Maybe it's because they have had some quality time to think of something good to contribute?

Also it is common for this time of year to bring in some new authors. New contenders! New legends!

Could that be you? Do you want some accolade or acknowledgement that you "know your stuff" ?

TechNet Guru winners can go on to be MVPs and high profile technical evangelists within the Microsoft community and work place!

All you have to do is add an article to TechNet Wiki from your own specialist field. Something that fits into one of the categories listed on the submissions page. Copy in your own blog posts, a forum solution, a white paper, or just something you had to solve for your own day's work today.

Drop us some nifty knowledge, or superb snippets, and become MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY GURU OF THE MONTH!

This is an official Microsoft TechNet recognition, where people such as yourselves can truly get noticed!

HOW TO WIN

1) Please copy over your Microsoft technical solutions and revelations toTechNet Wiki.

2) Add a link to it on THIS WIKI COMPETITION PAGE (so we know you've contributed)

3) Every month, we will highlight your contributions, and select a "Guru of the Month" in each technology.

If you win, we will sing your praises in blogs and forums, similar to the weekly contributor awards. Once "on our radar" and making your mark, you will probably be interviewed for your greatness, and maybe eventually even invited into other inner TechNet/MSDN circles!

Winning this award in your favoured technology will help us learn the active members in each community.

August's entries are still with the judges, but below are July's mighty winners and contenders!

    SSIS error connecting to MSDB

    Hi,

    I am running Windows 2003 SP1 and SQL Server 9.0.3054.  I open SSIS in Management Studio and try to open MSDB but I get this error:

    Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)

    Please check the version of the database and the instance of the server, which the SSIS service configuration is referencing for storage folders. (MsDtsSrvr)

    When I run:

    SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('ResourceVersion');
    GO

    On any of the system tables you get this version:  9.00.3042

    The only thing I have found close to a fix for this is an older hotfix:  http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=934458

    I found some information here but nothing specific to this situation:  http://blogs.msdn.com/psssql/archive/2007/04/06/post-sql-server-2005-service-pack-2-sp2-fixes-explained.aspx

    Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Hi, I am using ssdt for sql server 2014 and importing flat files from a 3rd party application and frequently run into "column delimiter not found error". I am working on making this robust using script task.

    C# code:

    string[] source = Directory.GetFiles(@"\\share\data\", "*.txt");

    using(SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=sql_server;Initial Catalog=test;Integrated Security=SSPI"))
    {
       string query ="INSERT INTO dbo.srcText(uid, code, description) VALUES(@uid, @code, @description)";

       using(SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, conn))
       {
          cmd.Parameters.Add("@uid", SqlDbType.Int);
          cmd.Parameters.Add("@code", SqlDbType.VarChar, 10);
          cmd.Parameters.Add("@description", SqlDbType.VarChar, 500);

          foreach (string loadData in source)
          {

             string[] allrecords = File.ReadAllLines(loadData);

             conn.Open();

             for (int index = 1; index < allrecords.Length; index++)
             {
                // how would I include multiple text qualifiers
                string[] items = allrecords[index].Split(new char[] { '|' });

                cmd.Parameters["@uid"].Value = items[0];
                cmd.Parameters["@code"].Value = items[1];
                cmd.Parameters["@description"].Value = items[2];

                cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
             }

             conn.Close();
          }
       }
    }

    How would I handle multiple text qualifiers. Please guide me.

    Thank you in advance.

    Package lost its flat file source DATA LENGTH settings after addition of 1 column | ssis migration issue ? sql server 2008 R2 to Sql server 2014 | BIDS TO VS2013

    I faced this strange issue  and I am trying to figure out if this is a bug .

    My ssis package was built in SSIS 2008 BIDS R2 was migrated to SSIS 2014 .

    sql server 2008 R2 to Sql server 2014 | BIDS TO VS2013

    Note: No project deployment model used.

    I had a dataflow task in it which was reading a CSV flat file source .

    After migration, I was asked to add one more column to read as we got a new column in the csv which I added by default setting the datatype to string 50.

    But what has happened is the other default datatypes for the other columns of csv has been reverted to 50 and not 255 which i had set them from advance editor options .

    So my question to everyone is if you modify ( addition of new column)in a migrated package which is using flat file source will the other existing settings of column of the flat file source gets modified?

    Note:I had not changed anything apart from 1 column.

    How to migrate SQL Agent jobs that call SSIS packages

    $

    0
    I need to migrate SQL Agent jobs from ServerA to ServerB.  Some Agent jobs call an SSIS package.  I migrate jobs using the Transfer Jobs Task in a new SSIS package.  I migrate/import SSIS packages from ServerA to ServerB by right clicking on the MSDB node on the target server and selecting Import.  How do I change the migrated Agent jobs and corresponding SSIS packages so they now point to ServerB instead of ServerA?  If I edit the job step properties of the migrated Agent jobs, there are several tabs including General and Data Sources.  I can change the server name on the General tab.  Also, looks like I can edit the connection strings of the Connection Managers that are listed in the Data Sources tab.  Does it matter that there are GUIDs in the connection strings?  I.e., are those GUIDs somehow bound to the source server?  Is there anywhere else I need to change the server name, or is there a better approach?  Bottom line is I don't want to have to open migrated SSIS packages, change the connection managers, save, and reimport.  Thanks.

    Deploying SSIS from Visual Studio 2015 to SQL Server 2014

    I have been developing SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS in Visual Studio 2012/SQL Server 2014. We recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2015. We are not planning on upgrading to SQL Server 2016. I understand that the BI tools for VS 2015 are still in development. I installed the November preview SSDT and was able to pull up my BI tools in VS 2015.

    However, when I deploy my SSIS packages from VS 2015 and run them in SS 2014 I get a compatibility error.

    "...is not compatible with this version of the DataFlow.  [[The version or pipeline version or both for the specified component is higher than the current version.  This package was probably created on a new version of DTS or the component than is installed on the current PC"

    More specifically, packages that contain C# scripting objects fail. Packages without scripting do not fail. I get this error as well:

    "[package name] Data Task:Error: The component metadata for "[scripting task name]" could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed."

    Are VS 2015 and SS 2014 just incompatible? Is there a way to develop my BI tools in VS 2015 and deploy to SS 2014?

    SQLDUMPER ERROR while running SSIS package through DTEXEC Visual Studio 2012

    I get SQlDUMPER ERROR while running SSIS package through dtexec on win 2012 server 64bit OS.

    The package runs fine on win7 64 bit.  I set Run64BitRuntime to False in Debugging options.

    I use the following dtexec "D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Binn\dtexec.exe" /F "\"%PackagePath%ERS_Defunct_extracts.dtsx"\"  + variables passed in.

    Package contains two sequence containers; the first container loads staging table (works fine), the second container tries to access table and write content to file (csv) and dump is generated

    SSIS runs successfully but table does NOT updated

    All,

    I have one SSIS package which has 5 different Execute SQL task (Running in Sequential execution) and Send Mail Task at the end.

    Each execute SQL task runs separate Stored Procedure which updates 5 separate tables.

    Once those are completed successfully then Developers get an email.

    This Package is running fine when I run manually.

    Last 6 months we scheduled to run this package through SQL Agent.

    Just today I got an issue that one of the table did not get updated.

    Developers received success email and I checked dbo.sysssislog table i can see that particular step took 2 hours to execute but back end table does NOT updated as per stored procedure.

    P.S I am using SQL 2014

    Thanks in advance

    Thanks

    SSIS Execute SQL Task Issue with Stored Procedure - Problem with Output Parameter

    Hi All,

    Having an issue with an output parameter from a stored procedure.  I've looked around and found a few posts on this subject and I am perplexed as to why it's not working.  I'm pretty sure I have everything configured correctly.

    SQL2005 9.0.4294 build for SQL.  Connection type of OLE DB.

    I am trying to assign it to an SSIS variable.  When I call the proc from QueryAnalyzer, works fine.  When I call from SSIS Execute SQL Task, I get the following error:

    [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "EXEC GL_SP_Update_Log_Insert @ProcessFileName = ?, @ProcessFileDate = ?, @CurrentLogId = ? OUTPUT" failed with the following error: "Value does not fall within the expected range.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

    EXEC GL_SP_Update_Log_Insert @ProcessFileName = ?, @ProcessFileDate = ?, @CurrentLogId = ? OUTPUT

    You can see the above call.  I know it's correct.  I've also tried just using ?,?,? OUTPUT and the same thing.

    On configuring the task, I have ResultSet set to NONE.  It's my understanding that you don't use a result set when using an OUTPUT parameter.  I have the parameters mapped correctly, see below, taken from the ParameterMapping editor:

    VariableName, Direction, DataType, ParameterName, ParameterSize

    Formula::strExcelImportFile, Input, VarChar, @ProcessFileName, 0
    Formula::strExcelImportDate, Input, Date, @ProcessFileDate, 1
    Log::intCurrentLogId, Output, Long, @CurrentLogId, 2

    Log::intCurrentLogId is type of Int32 and is the SSIS variable I'm trying to assign the value to.

    For completeness, I am including the stored proc, it's a simple insert:

    CREATE PROCEDURE GL_SP_Update_Log_Insert

    @ProcessFileName varchar(100),
    @ProcessFileDate datetime,
    @CurrentLogId int OUTPUT

    AS

    SET NOCOUNT ON

    SET @ProcessFileDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), @ProcessFileDate, 101)
    SET @ProcessFileDate = CAST(@ProcessFileDate + ' 00:00:00.000' AS DATETIME)

    INSERT INTO Operations.dbo.GL_Update_Log

    ( ProcessFileName, ProcessFileDate, ProcessStatus ) VALUES ( @ProcessFileName, @ProcessFileDate, 1 )

    SELECT @CurrentLogId = CAST(SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS INT)

    Thanks in advance.

    File Upload automation - handling metadata changes.

    I receive files (txt and csv files)from vendor each month and I need to import the files into SQL Db.
    These files columns can change each month.

    I am trying to coming up with a way to automate this process End - to - End.

    I thought about some of the options and I am not sure which of this solution can help me to make this process end to end.

    1. Bulk Insert : The issue with this is the destination table must already exists and since the file columns can change, I am not sure how the table can be precreated.

    2. BCP: needs format file and not sure if there is a way to create format file based on the text file data. BCP can create format file for the table but not sure about text file.

    3. OpenRowSet: using sql 64 and needs OLED drivers to be installed and format file is also needed.

    4. BIML: I thought about BIML but as much as I understand BIML, it looks like we can use BIML to autogenerate packages. I am looking for more End-to-End solution, so, I want the automation of ssis package creation as well as execution of the package.

    The way I am implementing this todays is using powershell to read the first line in the file(column headers) and creating the staging table and then using bulk Insert to import the data.

    I am not sure if this is the only option and if there is anything I can do make this process better.

    any help is appreciated.

    Hope it Helps!!

    SSIS package unable to run

    I have a database server (Server1) which is running SQL server 2000.

    I have another "Archive" server (Server2) which is running SQL server 2014. The job of this archive server (Server 2) is to basically transfer all data, from audit tables, from primary/production server (Server1 : source) to "Archive Server"(Server2 : Destination).

    It is done via executing a SSIS package that enables the data transfer.

    I assume we can automate the process and setup SQL server agent to run the package automatically at our desire.

    But the package execution fails and I get the following error:

    Mapping files question Import/Export Wizard

    Hi, I'm trying to copy data from IBM DB2 to SQL Azure database using the Import/Export wizard. Everything works, except the automatic mapping of column types. See example below. What I'm trying to do is if source column type= "CHARACTER VARYING" the destination column type should be VARCHAR for example. Now it chooses type "binary" or something else.

    So it uses the mapping files from DB2 -> SSIS and from SQL -> SSIS but I can't seem to find how to map data_type between DB2 -> SQL. The destination column doesn't even exist so it can't get any info out of that.

    Having SSIS conversion in between is no problem but I need a way to set the destination data type like I choose.

    [Source Information]
    Source Location : meersds1
    Source Provider : IBMDASQL.DataSource.1
    Table: ***.***.CUSTOMER
    Column: WEBSITE
    Column Type: CHARACTER VARYING
    SSIS Type: string [DT_STR]
    Mapping file (to SSIS type): C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\130\DTS\MappingFiles\IBMDB2ToSSIS10.XML

    [Destination Information]
    Destination Location : ***test.database.windows.net
    Table: "***"."CUSTOMER"
    Column: WEBSITE
    Column Type: binary
    SSIS Type: byte stream [DT_BYTES]
    Mapping file (to SSIS type): C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\130\DTS\MappingFiles\SqlClientToSSIS.XML

    [Conversion Steps]
    Step 1: DT_STR to DT_BYTES
    SSIS conversion file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\130\DTS\binn\DtwTypeConversion.xml

    Excel Connection Manager Issue

    Morning,

    Background:  I have a very simple job that imports data from 3 xlsx files to 3 sql tables using ssis (VS 2013). I am on a large corporate network, so my scheduling capabilities are slim. I have been using an excel scheduler for 3 years with no real issues to speak of. The scheduler uses a batch file to fire off and kill various projects. The times do not overlap.

    Issue:  That said, I have been having a really strange issue. On the above mentioned job, it runs fine when opening VS and running manually (99% of the time). When the scheduler fires off the job with the batch file, it OPENS all of the excel connections (the actual FILES open with a read write prompt) when it gets to that part of the ETL process!

    Final Word:  Now this could just be me, but I feel like I see it happening on the other packages where an excel connection manager exists (there are only 2 others out of 15).

    Has anyone ever seen this behavior? I am at a complete loss and its killing my vibe! :)
